After his first solo show in Beijing in 2008 Galleria Continua is pleased to welcome back one of the leading artist on the international art scene, Michelangelo Pistoletto
Key figure in the development of conceptual art and one of the founders of the Arte Povera movement, the artist wrote a chapter in the history of art in the second half of the twentieth century. Multiplication and division, exclusion and accumulation, understood as universal foundations for all organic development, are the fundamental themes of mirror work; already explored by Michelangelo Pistoletto in 1977, here have been made on a larger scale and installed at the gallery entrance. On second floor new examples of mirror paintings with a specific autobiographical note. The artist has used the silkscreen technique to incorporate an image of himself into the mirror-polished stainless steel surface, in this way the visitors become part of the scene creating a fourth dimension. Metrocubo d'infinito (Cubic Meter of Infinity) – six mirrors assembled with a simple piece of rope delimit the empty space of a cubic metre - it’s also on view. This work pick up on the essential concepts of Arte Povera.
