This exhibition explores the relationship between humankind and man-made machines. Sun Yuan & Peng Yu present the, by now, world-famous work “Can’t Help Myself” and Arcangelo Sassolino presents “Figurante”, a piece which uses the functionality of industrial machine to manipulate the future of the bone that finds itself between a set of mechanized jaws.

The inauguration of the exhibition will be preceded by a conversation with Uli Sigg, Ai Weiwei and Marcella Beccaria in the theatre of the castle. Moderated by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev.
This exhibition is developed in close contact with the collector Uli Sigg (Lucerna, 1946) and documents some of the prestigious collection’s distinctive characters through a choice of thematic and monographic rooms. Sun Yuan & Peng Yu will present the work One or All (Ash column) 2007 from the M+ Sigg Collection, donation by Uli Sigg, former Swiss ambassador in China and collector, to the M+ Museum in Hong Kong.

An installation that includes 15 taxidermy animals including wild boar and lions and that was originally exhibited at Galleria Continua San Gimignano with actors who intermittently changed the contents of the installation from animals to metal kitchen cabinets. At Macro Asilo the public are invited on Sunday 1 December 2019 to bring a book to read in the chair in the center of the installation. The immense power of the stationary animals evoke an acute awareness of being a temporary protagonist within the fantastical world the installation creates.

Talk: '2003/2019 Le opere oltre il contesto’
This talk will approach and discuss the importance of the experimental nature of contemporary art in Sun Yuan & Peng Yu’s projects from 2003 to 2019. The two artists recount their attempt to escape from a specific context in order to revive their expressive forms and methodologies that in turn enriches the sensory perception of their art, focusing on the subversion of the rules of reality and the “rules” of art itself.
